If you apply a hyaluronic acid serum in dry air and don’t seal it in with a moisturizer, you can end up with skin that’s drier than when you started.
The solution is simple: apply HA to damp skin and follow immediately with a moisturizer that creates a barrier. This locks in the hydration HA has pulled in rather than letting it evaporate.
Molecular weight is the other factor most people don’t know to consider. High-molecular-weight HA stays on the surface of the skin and provides immediate plumping and smoothing. Low-molecular-weight HA can penetrate more deeply for longer-lasting hydration. The best formulas use both — which is exactly what a well-designed medical-grade product will do.
